An Orchard of Outstanding Gaiety
March 1888. Van Gogh arrives in Arles after two years in grey Paris. Spring is just starting and the orchards are waking up. He loses his mind over it. Starts painting them one after another, almost in a panic because he knows the blossoms won't last. This is one of those paintings. You can feel how fast he was working. The guy who spent months staring at factory chimneys and city fog suddenly has pink blossoms and open sky in front of him.
