In 1883 Monet and Renoir took a trip down the Italian coast. Painted side by side. It was fine. But something about Bordighera got under Monet's skin. So in January 1884 he went back. Alone. Without telling Renoir. He started sending letters to Alice saying the light was impossible. The colors were too much. He needed time. He stayed weeks longer than planned. Painted over 50 works.
