Long Island, 1892. The Atlantic there runs cold. Even in summer. So they're just there. On the sand. Dressed in full Victorian clothes, basically setting up a living room on the beach. This is Alice. The kids are her daughters. Her husband William Merritt Chase spent his summers teaching painting out there, and on his days off he painted his family doing nothing. Basically a family photo. That ended up at the Met.
