The ploughman Did Not Know
Saint Rémy, 1889. Van Gogh was stable again. They let him go outside. He enjoyed it. But that field right outside his window kept pulling him back. The ploughman and his horse turning the earth over and over. And Van Gogh doing the exact same thing with his brush. Same view. Same wheat. Same man. He made 12 paintings of this field. Twelve. The plougman started over every morning. So did Van Gogh.
