Auvers sur Oise wasn't just where Van Gogh spent his last days. Cézanne worked there for two years. Pissarro came constantly. Daubigny built his studio there and never left. Something about this place pulled painters in for decades. Maybe it was the light. Maybe it was the Oise River. Maybe it was just the fact that other painters were already there. Artists have always needed a place where someone else understood what they were trying to do. They all painted it.
