Crossing This Street And Staying Alive

So many people risking their life. Crossing. In 1898 Paris, 300 pedestrians died under horse drawn wheels. Roughly one a day. More lost limbs or were scarred for life by the whips of angry coachmen. The omnibuses were hard to brake. The horses spooked at any noise. Hit by the front wheels, the driver might hand you a few coins. Hit by the rear wheels? Most kept going. Pissarro painted the scene from the sixth floor.
