The Ghost of Camille
After Camille, Monet couldn't paint people anymore. For years it was just snow, haystacks, the sea. Anything without a face. Mid 1880s, he wants to try again. But he needs someone who is not Camille. That's Suzanne. His step daughter. He still isn't painting a person, more a shape happening to be human. He couldn't handle what a face meant. So he blurred them out. Treated people like trees, hills, flowers. Suzanne wasn't Camille's replacement. She was how Monet taught himself to paint people again. 🛒 Get it here: https://art.ecoartlab.store/collections/claude-monet-frame-tv-sets 🎨 EcoArtLab
