Sisley painted spring like an Englishman
When spring hits, impressionists lose their minds a little. Monet throws orange everywhere. Renoir drowns in reds. Pissarro lets yellow take over like he's been waiting all winter to uncork it. Sisley gets the same rush. You can tell. But the guy was born in Paris to English parents and that restraint never left him. Blossoms yes, but soft. Color yes, but held back just enough. Like someone who's excited but would never raise their voice about it. Look at this. Spring is clearly here but nothing is shouting. Every other impressionist painted spring like a celebration.
