Audubon: A 30 Year Mission

Before Audubon, paintings of birds were almost always made from stuffed animals. Naturalists typically drew them from museum specimens. Far from the true wildlife. Audubon made himself a mission to fix this. He'd hunt the bird himself, then pose the fresh body into a lifelike position before painting it in front of its natural landscape. Not exactly alive, but closer to truth than anything done before him.
