Alfred Sisley - Flood

It happened twice in less than five years. The Seine overflowed and flooded Paris and the whole river basin. A region-wide disaster. Sisley lived in Marly-le-Roi, west of Paris, right in the water's path. Both times, he stayed and painted the calm disaster. Water turned a wrecked neighborhood into a perfect Impressionist scene. Houses doubled. Sky on the ground. Nothing left to invent. The floods hit hard. But they also helped Sisley grow his fame as a master.
