Humans Belong to Nature
Renoir was obsessed with the idea that humans belong in nature, not standing on top of it. He used the same strokes for skin, for petals, for leaves. Everything melts together. The figures don't dominate the scene. They dissolve into it. Most painters would have made them sharp and the garden blurry. Renoir did the opposite. He let the garden swallow them whole.
