1880. Monet has been broke for twenty years. He's moved from town to town. Borrowed money from everyone he knew. Camille just died. He's got two kids and no idea what comes next. Then he settles in Vétheuil. And he paints this. Three willows. A village in the back you can barely make out. Spring grass so alive you can almost smell it. But look at those trees. Thin, young, barely rooted. Bending with whatever wind shows up. That's not a landscape.
