80000 Horses in the Streets
They built the boulevards to fix this. Paris used to be a maze. Medieval streets, some barely six feet. Hell for horses. Nightmare for everyone else. Permanent "embarrassments." That's what they called traffic jams. Haussmann tore it all apart and built the boulevards. Wide. Straight. Grand. Tremendous success. By 1897 there were 80,000 horses on the streets and 7,000 times more carriages than a century before. Pissarro watched it from a hotel window. He loved every bit of it. 🛒 Get it here: https://art.ecoartlab.store/products/frame-tv-art-pissarro-impressionist-oil-paintings-french-country-
