Van Gogh: Mini Alps

100 miles west of the Alps and barely 1,500 feet tall, but these hills are technically where the Alps begin. Alpilles means Mini Alps. Van Gogh painted them while he was at Saint-Rémy, and even though they're older than the real Alps, they got pushed up when the big mountains formed, making them the first bump on the way to the summits. Keep going east and you hit the Luberon. Go further and you end up on top of Mont Blanc.
