Maria Oakey Dewing painted this in 1895. No path. No sky. No distance. Just flowers. Right in your face. Like she grabbed you by the collar and pulled you inside her garden. Her husband Thomas Dewing became one of the most celebrated painters in America. She was just as talented. Maybe more when it came to flowers. But somewhere along the way her name just faded out. You know what didn't fade though.
