Mondrian, Halfway to Squares

Not really a tree, not yet an abstract. This gray tree is part of Piet Mondrian's 10 year journey from post impressionist land to the abstraction new continent. Colors are out. Details are out. Natural structure is still there. But not for long. The first rectangles are a couple of years away. Within 10 years, nature is forgotten and geometry is welcomed. The grid paintings we all know will wait until 1930.
