Not twins, but they were inseparable. Berthe was the younger, Edma two years older. They spent hours painting together in their home studio, under the tutelage of Corot himself. Then Edma chose marriage over painting. She ended her career and became a wife and mother. Berthe was devastated and vowed to never let that happen to her. It did not.
