This garden should not have existed. Not in real life. Not on canvas. There's an island off the coast of Maine. Mostly rock. Wind all day. Salt in everything. Not the kind of place where you'd expect flowers. But a woman named Celia Thaxter spent years growing a garden there anyway. Poppies, hollyhocks, everything wild and bright, right up against the Atlantic. No fence. No protection. Just her stubbornness and the ocean behind it.
