Renoir: Self-Lit Landscapes

Renoir first made landscapes with people inside them. Or people inside a landscape. Always pure plein air, playing by every rule of Impressionism. Then he lost his faith in the dogma. Turned to portraits and studio work. He came back outdoors in Provence. Escaping the Paris winter. There, he didn't paint landscapes. He painted light that seemed to come from inside the canvas.
