Guillaumin was the link. The old guard, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, treated him like one of their own. But the young rebels, Seurat, Signac, Van Gogh, called him a mentor too. He'd always been the radical in the room. That position let him do something huge: he introduced Pissarro to Signac, then to Seurat, and sent the father of impressionism straight into the avant-garde.
