Monet: The Poplars Before the Poplars

This one is not part of the ultra famous poplars series. It's the precursor. 1888. Monet has been living in Giverny for five years. Still thrilled by the place, still walking the area from early morning to dusk. He met this row of poplars along the Epte river at sunrise and the spell was cast. One painting right on the spot. Many others to come. Then a whole series, finished just before the trees had to go.
