Haussmann redesigned Paris and Parc Monceau was one of his crown jewels. Elegant, manicured, built for exactly the kind of people who lived in Caillebotte's neighborhood. He could walk there in 5 minutes. Monet painted it. Big, open, full of light and flowers. Very on brand. Caillebotte went looking for a shadowy side alley.
