Monet Did Not Sleep
The Hôtel de l'Amirauté in Le Havre was a very nice place to stay. Just not to sleep. At least not for Monet, who spent his nights and early mornings at the window, staring at the harbor right in front of him. This is the one he painted in the dark. He liked the sunrise version better and sent that one to the first Impressionist Exhibition. This one stayed in his studio. Would probably have been just as famous.
