Monet: Sunday Walk

1874. A Sunday walk is still a luxury. Only the rising middle class gets to take one. Farmers and workers are on the job seven days a week. So the stroll becomes a show. Parks turn into fashion runways, and the new railway carries the lucky few out to the banks of the Seine in Argenteuil. Some Sundays, you could run into Monet's family out there. Camille with her parasol, Jean in the grass, and Monet watching it all, the bridge behind them, the train passing over.
